Smart Coop

Why an automated chicken coop? , the answer to this question will justify my project's application and scope.

This is the statistics report of indian domestic poultry farming,from this its clear that india has a boomimg market in poultry, so my idea is to simplify and applying technology to the field of agriculture and thus to invite new young geeks to experiment the same which will make the farming fun and cozy.So as a first step for this game changing revolution i am dedicating my final project

What will it do?

Automated chicken coop which is interfaced with your mobile device,This is a start of change ,in my country majority is the farmers thus my country promote it much extents.This will be a game changer in the field of agriculture to make others think

Who’s done what beforehand?

There are automated chicken coops around the globe , But i am aiming at the customization of the product and replication with modification.anyway i also did'nt find a chicken coop with all these features embedded most of the automated coop i found was with is either automatic feeder or water dispensers etc, but i did'nt find any bluetooth interfaced with multiple options like automatic feeder,automatic water-dispenser, egg counter and much more.

What materials and components will be required?

  • 12mm plywood
  • Acryllic sheets

    1. Auger shape
    2. Servo motor
    3. T-junction pipe
    4. Connection pipe(3/4")
  • Water Dispenser
    1. DC pump
    2. Tubes
  • IR module

Where will they come from?


Most of them are either available in our lab inventory or Locally available, i did'nt struggled to source materials here.

How much will it cost?

Since the coop smartness lies on the design the price is dependednt on the same.Anyway it will cost about 2650 INR which is 39.461 US Dollar

What parts and systems will be made?

  • Entire wood structure with cute design
  • Mobile Application
  • Food and water container out of acryllic
  • 3D printed auger
  • Logic

What processes will be used?

  1. Shopbot for structure
  2. Laser cutter for food and water container
  3. 3d printer for making auger shape
  4. modela for milling my controller and individual boards for Food,water dispensers and IR.
  5. Vinyl cutter for printing my logo on it.

What tasks need to be completed?


Started working on my basic design was learning grasshopper,a bit confident now to finish off the design soon.need to work on controller board and then the rest.

What questions need to be answered?

  1. What if i integrate it to cloud?
  2. how smart application will be enough to handle?
  3. Real time monitering
  4. How to make automated door? which method that wont harm chickens and that is safe in all aspects

How will it be evaluated?

My project is " NOT " rocket science,The Design will be a highlight here since i was not designer before this course, I have tried my extents to looks that cool,i have learned grasshopper plugin in rhino for making the voronoi structure that i had in my mind, i even was'nt aware of the name "Voronoi" but i badly needed it so i learned,I tried to involve and integrate all possible piece of knowledge in various field but i know there are several improvement spot that i wont repeat on my next creation.
