Working on my final project

With every week passing by I'd try to develop my final project. On this page I'm linking to every exercise that I worked during the course on my game. This is the story of my project.

January 25th

This was the week that the idea of my final project was born. It was a great challenge to simplify an idea into a project I could complete during the course. My goal was to create a product which summarized all that I’ve learned in Fab Academy, from the fabrication to the programing. I tried to link between the weekly assignment and my final project on each week. The knowledge I am to gain in web development will be invaluable through this entire journey.

February 1st

The focus of this week was to present my final project through developing my skills in 2D and 3D modeling. I created a convincing illustration of the Rush Hour game and demonstrated in a movie the game’s method.

February 22nd

On the fifth week, after 3D modeling and printing a small scale prototype of my game’s unit, I have had the first concrete experience/idea of my project’s appearance.

March 29th

The output experience gave me the opportunity to imagine an advanced version of my project. What if the units of my game could move automatically on the game’s board? For making it possible I started with a tiny CNC module...

April 19th

At this stage I tested a new fabrication process for my game’s bottom units. The molding and casting is a serial and accurate fabrication system. It was a fascinating experience with materials. Watching my project on a real scale was a thrill.

April 26th

Reading information through the input exercise, with a proper programing, will allow me to create an interactive game. I practiced with two different inputs. The hall effect sensor will trigger the game’s lightning. The 4-buttons board was designed in order to select the game’s units and control their movement.

May 3rd

Continuing with the fabrication of the game’s units, this week I turn to make their tops. During my experience with the composites, I created a strong structure. The mold can be reused many times. I realise that this method did not suit my project as it takes too much manufacturing time.

May 17th

The challenge of this week - to create an interface - is a further development of the 4-buttons board. This step is about making my product into an IOT experience. Looking forward for a future upgrade...

Through the end of the course

From now on it’s about making my project real. Making decisions, evaluating my time, planning, pricing, fabricating, programing. This requires an even deeper understanding of product development, and what is more to come - whether it’s marketing, branding or funding. Many questions need to be answered and a lot of work to be completed for the first prototype.
