Assignment: Invention, Intellectual Property and Business Models

I have a little knowledge of Intellectual Property and open source, so I learned about IP and open source for promotion the final projects, I sumarize as follow :

Intellectual Property

According to Baidu, Intellectual Property refers to the intellectual labor of the people shall enjoy the exclusive rights, is usually given by the state to the creators of exclusive rights of its intellectual right in a certain period of time or exclusive rights (exclusive right).

There are two categories: Copyright (also known as copyright and literary property), and industrial property rights (also known as industrial property rights).

Types of intellectual property:

1. Copyright

Copyright is the legal title to the reproduction rights of computer programs, literary works, music works, photographs, films, etc.. Copyright is usually considered to belong to the author unless it is transferred to the other party. Most computer programs are protected not only by copyright, but also by software licenses. Copyright protects only the form of thought , not the thought itself . Algorithms, mathematical methods, techniques, or machine designs are not included in copyright protection.

2. Patent Right

Patent right (Patent Right), referred to as "patent", is the exclusive right of the creator or his right holder to the specific invention creation within a certain period of time. It is one of the intellectual property rights.

The nature of patent right is mainly embodied in three aspects: exclusiveness, timeliness and regionality.

3. TradeMark Right

Trademark right is the abbreviation of the right to exclusive use of a trademark. It refers to the exclusive right granted by the trademark authority to the trademark owner in accordance with the law to protect the registered trademark of the trademark. The registered trademark has to dominate its registered trademark and to prohibit infringement of the rights of others, including the registered trademark registered trademark of the exclusive right of use, usufruct and disposition of the right, right of renewal and rights of others against the ban. A trademark is a commercial mark used to distinguish between different sources of goods and services. It consists of text, graphics, letters, numbers, three-dimensional symbols, color combinations, sounds, or elements.

Open Source License

There are many lisences, and I do research about the GPL,the BSD and the MIT Lisence.

GPL Lisence

We are very familiar with Linux is the use of the GPL. The starting point of the GPL is the open source / free use of the code and the use / reference / modification / derivative code for open source / free use, but does not allow modified and derived code as closed source commercial software release and sales. This is why we can use free variety of linux, including commercial companies on linux and linux on a variety of free software developed by individuals, organizations, and commercial software companies.

BSD Lisence

BSD code encourages code sharing, but requires respect for the author's copyrights. BSD allows users to modify and republish the code, also allows the use or development of commercial software in the BSD code release and sales, it is a very friendly business integration agreement. And many companies in the selection of open source products are preferred when the BSD protocol, because you can completely control the third party code, when necessary, can be modified or secondary development.

MIT Lisence

MIT is also wide license agreement, the author just want to retain the copyright, without any other restrictions. In other words, you must include in your distribution the original license agreement statement, whether you are published in binary or source code.

Compare the three open souce license, as a science and technology teacher, I select the MIT license for my Final Project. I think it is the best choice . Because as a science and technology teacher, I hope this project can bring fun to more students and stimulate their imagination and creativity.

Plan for dissemination

After finishing this project, I will attend the Make Faire Xi'an and Make Faire Beijig, to display Fablab courses and its ideas. and I will continue to improve the project and develop a series of courses based on this, for junior high school students.

I'm not very interested in business, but I also plan to select some of the Fablab courses based on the concept of Fablab and to combine China's basic national conditions to launch a Chinese version of "HTMAA" course for primary and secondary school students. I will focus on the development of courses and provide top quality learning courses for schools and training institutions.
