Applications and Implications

Assignment propose a final project that integrates the range of units covered

My Final Project is an Ad-Clock

  1. What will it do?

  2. The clock,will as all clocks are wont to do, show time. It will use clear plastic to refract and diffuse light from 12 lEDs to display the hour while 60 LEDs will be used to display the minutes.

    At the center of the clock there will be an LED matrix that will act as a screen on which information can be scrolled.

  3. What materials and components will be required?

  4. The mechanical part of the clock will need the following materials;

    • 3mm plywood for the clock face

    • 5/6mm acrylic behind the clock face to hold the LED's in place

    At a cursory glance, the Electrical part will need;

    • 203 LEDs (128 white for the matrix, 3 Red to count the seconds, 60 Blue for the minutes and 12 Green for the hour)

    • 16 100Ohm resistors

    • 2 4017 decade counter

    • 8 1KOhm resistors

    • 8 2N3904 transistors

    • 2 Atmega328p microcontrollers

    • 5 74hc595 Shift Registers

  5. Where will they come from?

  6. All the materials wil be purchased locally.

  7. What processes will be used?

  8. So far; I will lasercut the clock face and most of the parts, 3D print a holder to hold the matrix in place, design and program the 2 circuits controlling the clock and vinyl cut the numbering around the clock

  9. What tasks need to be completed?

    • Electrical design and fabrication.

    • Minor changes to the machanical design
