I made a LED cube with small rectangular LEDs and vinyl cutted circuit.
First I laser cut the structure in plexiglas and wood and engrave the border of the circuit that I will add later
That cube is just made by a base and three plexiglas layers uppon it.
Then I cut the circuit with the vinyl cutter in a copper tape. I was struggling with the settings to cut copper properly but finally it just needed to put a very light force.
I put the traces one by one on the plexiglas and the wood (it need lots of patience !).
I put some isolating tape under the copper tape when I needed to make jumpers.
I get confused when I wired the cube so the multiplexing is not that perfect, each LEDs are sharing the same cathode instead of having three diferents cathodes, so I can't light less than 3 LEDs ...
Anyways the cube still get that nice 3D effect and it's quiet easy to programm in arduino by turning leds on and off in differents order to get some cool effects.
Made with the cosmino board I designed.
Circuit design in rhino, then you export it .ai for illustrator an export it .png for the fab module and export it .camm for the vinyl cutter : Rhino file
