Week Seventeen: Application and Implication
Assignment: The assignment for this week is to propose a final project. After weeks of struggling through my love idea, I finally come to understand any unrealistic thoughts about broken love are doomed. I feel like a zoombie walking on the street. My dear mate Vincent told me he is going to make a gun and he needs a target to show his gun can really "function". Therefore I decide to convert my "zombie mood" to an object zombie which can represent a dead man who lost something important he once possessed.
I. Research: what indeed is a zombie?
Zombie is something without life. People without passion have no life. People without goal have no life. Zombie is something not vital, and zombie is something that gives up life.
-
Step1: Zombie that does not pay attention to others
-
Step2: Zombie cannot marry with love
-
Step3: Zombie is a good entertaining object
Then I come to design my Zombie. Q1: What will it do? I think my Zombie needs to respond to Vincent's Violet Gun. What I got to address this issue is to attach to light sensors to the body of my zombie, and use two motors to simulate the changing status of my zombie's arms. I will also use another motor to simulate the changing status of my zombie's tongue. Of course, this is just my part, which is half of the joint project done by Vincent and I. Vincent will finish the gun part.
-
Step4: This is the design of the body
-
Step5: This is the design of an arm observed from the top angle
-
Step6: This is the design of the head
Q2: what to do before hand? Of course, to think things overly before taking actions. Q3: Regarding what do I need for my project, I think I need the things listed below
1. Three Stepper Motor: To control two arms and a tongue.
2. Arduino Uno: To control the motors.
3. Power Supply.
4. Laser cutting parts.
5. 3D-printing parts.
I plan to use rhino or softwares from Autodesk to make the design. Q4: Where will do come from? I think Taobao, Gezhi and Tongji Fab Lab are sources good enough to get these things. Q5: People might wonder how much is the whole cost. The whole cost will charge roughly 200 dollars I guess.
Q6: What parts and systems will be made? The parts can be divided into body part, arm part and head part, while the systems can be divided into arm controlling and head controlling system. And the communication system between mine and Vincent's gun. Here is the process proposed:
1. Have my idea.
2. Have my idea thought thoroughly.
3. Sketch the design of my structure.
4. Digitally fabricate the board and the controlling system.
5. Connect my interface with Vincent's interface.
7. Test the system.
After I proposed my process, Vincent asked me several questions, including Q7 what are some potential issues for my design. I think it largely lies in the structure. How can I connect the motor, the arms and the head successfully and smoothly. Q8: Here is the schedule I decide to follow strictly: June 5, plan out the procedures. June 8, start my PCB Design. June 15, finish my structure design. June 20, finish the testing.
Q9: How will my project be evlauated? Users can evaluate my project through judging how much pressure they release when they shoot and make the zombie move. This is an entertaining project, and I am sure it will be popular.
Q10: Where will my things come from? I will purchase them from Taobao, a commercial platform on Internet.
