APPLICATIONS AND IMPLICATIONS

The aim for this week’s assignment is to propose a final project that integrates a range of units covered. The projects can be separate or joint, but need to show individual mastery of all of the skills. Where possible, you should make rather than buy the parts of your project.

For this assignment I will be defining the scope of my final project and I will develop the project plan. For doing this, it is necessary to remind on what I am working for my final project:

The idea for my Fab Academy final Project will be designing a prototype for a different exhibition space: a showroom. I will be working with the idea of having mobile spaces making possible new forms of artistic creativity in the furniture exhibition. This space is enabled so that designers, scenographers, artists… etc. can develop their exhibition creativity combining all the artistic fields.



What will it do?

My final project is a prototype that will serve to understand how that space is conceived. It will show a system for multipurpose space where the furniture is the main subject. For this, a light support structure will be created in which different daydreams and sets will be hanged. Punctual motors in specific points will be used allowing us to create different spatial configurations that make the observer being participant of that set. It will be a mobile territory in which it is impossible to have similar experiences.


Who has done what beforehand?

What I wanted to capture in my final project is architecture capable of absorbing the impact of various artistic languages. I wanted to create a multilingual contemporary design lab opened to the influences that come from different levels of the culture. For creating this, I’ve been inspired by the theatre spaces and its machinery because in the end my final project works as a stage but with the difference that what I’m creating is a scene meant to be seen from all points of views not just one as the theatres.

What materials and components will be required? Where will they come from? How much will it cost?


For answering these three questions I’ve done an inventory excel file in which it specifies all the components my final project has including all the electronics components, the motors, and the different materials for the structure and the hook system. It is also specified how much it cost each material and where can be bought. All the components of my final project are found in the fabacademy inventory.

The structure will be made of mathacrylate, this material helps to give a sense of lightness to the structure and allows see all the electronics and motors inside. The hook system will be printed with white PLA




What parts and systems will be made? What processes will be used?

I divided the work into three groups: Structure, hook system and electronics. The structure will be made with the laser cut machine, the hook and hoist system will be printed in PLA, and the boards will be milled with the Rolland modela, the vinyl cutter will be used for cutting the copper vinyl for the sensors





What tasks need to be completed?

Electronics: Until now I have the motor boards made in Networking and communications assignment, I’ve done the design of the sensors board so for this week the sensor board must be done

Structure: I have the 3d model of the structure and all the plans for it. I need to check if my design works, for this, I will do a prototype in MDF to check if it works. This must be done for this week.

Hook system: I’ve done some proves to check the tolerances between pieces so I have to see if the designed pieces works all together in the prototype.


What questions need to be answered?

For now, all the questions are answered but maybe I have to change some solutions after checking if the prototype works.


What is the schedule?

By the end of this week I must have the prototype in MDF and all the connections between boards, power supply, motors and sensors to check if it works. And for the next week I must have the final result.


How will it be evaluated?

My final result should demonstrate how the hoist system works up and down.
