Invention
“Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent.” - Arthur Conan Doyle.
“When one is nothing, one invents. It fills a void.” - Diane Setterfield
These 2 above quotes inspired me once, because of which I recollect them on to this page which I am writing it myself.
Before joining the Fab Academy program I have always done mechanical designs and was not interested in Electronics. But after going through the journey of the Fab program I have developed an interest of designing products & include electronics into it by myself.
Hence I have decided to make a Transfer Trolley for Fab Lab project which I recently designed in my regular office project. But the challenge was to scale down the model & re design it to suit the Fab Academy program by including all the necessary topics prescribed.
Though the scaled down model I will be making here in the Fab Lab will not be of use for commercial use, but it will be an example for other candidates to join the future batches of Fab Academy program.
Intellectual Property
Copyright material
Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. This is usually only for a limited time. The exclusive rights are not absolute but limited by limitations and exceptions to copyright law, including fair use. A major limitation on copyright is that copyright protects only the original expression of ideas, and not the underlying ideas themselves.
Copyright is a form of intellectual property, applicable to certain forms of creative work. Some, but not all jurisdictions require "fixing" copyrighted works in a tangible form. It is often shared among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referred to as rights holders. These rights frequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and "moral rights" such as attribution.
Laws of Copyright
Copyright enables people to say who can share and re-use their creation. It is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. For the project that I have designed "Transfer Trolley" I can define who can re-use and share my work through the copyright license I adopt for my project, which essentially is also a potential product for the market.
Creative Commons
A Creative Commons (CC) license is one of several public copyright licenses that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that he/she has created. I have shared an image which I could understand.

Dissemination of final project
Digital Fabrication will become the buzz word in the very near future. Everything is getting digitized & here comes the time for fabrication to get digitized. The project that I designed in Fab Academy is once such thing wherein the concept of conventional material handling equipment has got itself an digital approach in a whole new way. Operating a transfer trolley using digital components like stepper motors & gestalt nodes is new thing I learnt which is very practical.
This project work was developed to use my learnings of the Fab Academy in past weeks. However the project I designed and developed is the scaled down model of the original equipment that we designed at Godrej Mumbai for one of our clients. This prototype I developed will be used as a demonstration of our capabilities to clients visiting our company & also a learning for the future batches of Fab Academy at Godrej, Mumbai.
Urbanization in India is growing very fast & there are smart cites coming up very quickly. All these smart cities will need transportation in the form of Metro Railways, and lot of industrial development. All these mechanical industries will set up new factories at different locations and of different scales. Once this is done all these factories will be of the need of handling machineries or equipment or components which need to moved from one place to other or in plan transportation. Here comes in the use of the "Transfer Trolley" which can transfer things from one place to other within the plant or from plant to plant.
Then if this product can be used in these handling industries then can it be possible to be used by Small scale & medium scale industries. The answer is Yes. This is a customized solution which can be designed depending upon the requirement. The cost of the product will vary with varying requirement. However the equipment that I designed was for 63Tonnage which would cost roughly around 2 ~ 2.5Crores Indian Rupees.
I will be very happy to share the knowledge that I gained through Fab Academy and the previous experience I have in my professional career. Importantly I will share the experience of making this project in Fab Academy as this course teaches the basics & importance of Digital Fabrication in the days to come.
I have chosen to go ahead with "Creative Commons" licensing as this is very simple to follow & found that I can opt for either sharing my work for commercial use or no. I also have the option not to choose share my work with anyone also. Thus this is the one with which I will choose to go ahead.
