Week 17 : application and implication

Assignment

The assignment is required to plan and document a final project that integrates a range of units covered.

What will it do?

The idea is to make a robot which moves according to the gestures of my hand instead of a remote control. I have though of using programming and using other hardware components to make it working.

who’s done that beforehand?

A lot of toy companies are trying to come up with inovative, new generation toys and I have seen a lot of game consoles using gesture control such as XBOX, playstations(sony), etc.

what materials and components will be required?

The list of material required are as follows-

1) 2 DC Motors(9/12v)(200rpm,high torque)

2) Robot chassis(3-D Printed)

3)Adxl-335 Accelometer

4) Wheels(including castor wheel)(3-D Printed)

5) 9v batteries(2)

6) Motor driver IC

7) 2 Breadboards(for testing and debugging)

8) Arduino Uno R3(2)(for testting the project)

9) Fabduino

10) PCBs(2)

11) Rf transmitter and reciever

12)MDF wood sheet(2.5mm)

where will they come from?

We have a 3-D printer at our fablab so I dont need to worry about that. I purchased Motor driver ICs, arduino, breadboard and other stationary from market. We had Battries and pcbs available in lab and I just bought Adxl-335 from amazon.in.

how much will it cost?

The project wont be too expensive because the parts used are very common and easily available. It will not cost more that 10 Dollars even if you use premium quality parts and equipments(as I have used).

what parts and systems will be made?

The wheels, chassis, pcbs and fabduino will be made by using 3-D printer and milling machine respectively. Only motors and such other electronic parts need to be purchased.

what processes will be used?

1)compter-aided design for the PCB Design

2)3D printing: for the making wheels and chassis.

3)Electronic Production: for making PCB.

4)Embedded programming: programming microcontroller

5) Laser cutting(for product casing)

what is the schedule?

I have completed 3-D printing of all the parts. I also have my motors and electronics component with me. The coding part will take maximum 3-4 hours for me and additional 2 hours for debugging.

How will it be evaluated?

The project can be evaluated on the working of the project and its smooth functioning.
