ASSIGNMENT
My final project is an electric guitar with integrate LED lights which will light up a engraved plexiglass. There will also be a touchpad kill-switch that will turn off the main sound from the guitar and the LED lights when touched.
Many people have made an electric guitar. I have seen a transparent guitar made of plexi or acrylic, but I haven't seen set up like I am designing, with plexiglass set on the top of the body of the guitar and lighten up with RGB LEDs. It's the same idea of a plexi lamp.
Some of the components come from the Fab Lab Inventory and some were made during the weeks. I got the wood for the neck and body for free and the rest I ordered from Stewmac and Thomann.
Hardware:

Other:
- 3D Printed Guitar Pickup Riser/ Fab Lab Hornafjörður/ Week 4/ $1
- Guitar Strap/ Fab Lab Hornafjörður/ Week 12/ $25
- Plexiglass, 5 mm/ Fab Lab Hornafjörður/ Final Project/ $40
I will try to make most of the parts, but I am almost sure that I need to buy the pickup, bridge, strings, truss rod, fret wires, tuners and the jack input. These are all parts that are made of metals so I can't make them. I will make the electronics system and the rest of the components for the guitar, as strap buttons, bone nut, pickup riser, engraved Plexiglas, neck, headstock and the body. Below there is a list of the processes and the weeks I did them.
- Thinking about a final project and make a sketch/ Week 1
- Design the Guitar in Inkscape and then Fusion 360 / Week 2
- Make a FabISP programmer to program my boards/ Week 4
- 3D print the guitar pickup riser/ Week 5
- Making codes in Arduino/ Week 8
- Making a RGB LED board and programming/ Week 10
- Making the guitar strap buttons, molding and casting/ Week 12
- Make a touchpad and connect it with RGB LED board, Input Devices/ Week 13
- Connecting the RGB LED boards and make them talk with each other/ Week 15
- Design a final RGB LED boards; master and slaves
- Program the boards and make them communicate
- Test the sound sensor board
- Test the touchpad function
- Finish the bone, neck and body
- Laser cut the plexiglass
- Make sure everything fits and if the system works correctly
- Document the process
- Will the boards affect the sound?
- How will I connect the touchpad to the LED lights?
- How can I make the touchpad turn on and off the sound?
- What will the sound sensor board do?
- May 27 - June 1/ Finish the body, neck and plexiglass
- June 1 - June 13/ Design and make the Master-, LED- and sound sensor board
- June 13 - June 16/ Put everything together and work on the electronic system and program the boards
- June 16 - June 21/ Final Project Presentations
- June 21 - June 27/ Finish Documentation
I will have to finish designing the boards and the guitar make the parts for the guitar that are not finished. Also creating codes and program the boards and make them work together.
