Lesson17. Applications and Implications

Selecting and Planning for Final Project, From my three ideas on my final project, I decided to go for the last one,Growth Dashboard.

Plan on a Project
  • What will it do
  • The growth dashboard should visualize personal growth by tracking your every steps to your goal(s). :Like I want to meditate, exercise, study daily.

    • You can give a input to your step
    • Your steps towards a goal will be visualized
  • Who has done what
  • I pitched my idea to our instructor Marcel and we are planning and discussing how to convert my idea into a real project.
    I am also gathering ideas and drawing out images on what kind of visualization is possible whilst searching for what is out there already.
    I want to integrate gear mechanism into my application because I simply get attracted to the complexity and visual satisfaction- simply put, it seems just cool. But I have no idea yet how to design complex gear mechanisms. These days, I spend most of my spare time searching for youtube videos on gear mechanisms.
    Most probable idea is to put whatsoever gear mechanism inside the shape of the tree, to give a boundary to a system. It can also be an analogy of the 'personal growth', as it intends to aid :D

  • What parts and systems will be made
  • The growth tree made from MDF. gears can be laser cut from MDF or some other materials. Some electronics need to be made to run the gear system inside the tree.

  • How will it be evaluated
    • If it works
    • If it does what it suppose to do
    • If it looks nice
    • If it is applicable, and expandable

  • What materials will be required, and How much will it cost
  • Around 50 EUR, See BOM in my final project documentation

  • Where will the materials come from
  • As it seems my project does not require special process or materials, I think I could easily get things what I need for the project from fablab itself.
    IF there are something we are in need, Fab Lab Aachen orders most of their stuff from the following german vendors:

    • Mechanical Design: Gear mechanism
    • 2d design and Laser cutting
    • 3D modeling and printing
    • Electronics design and Production Embedded and Application Programming
  • What tasks need to be completed
    • Decide on the Dimension and size
    • Designing the tree and the gear system
    • Studying the Mechanism to let it grow.
    • Learning how to run a stepper motor
  • What questions need to be answered
  • How to operate a stepper motor yet

  • What is the schedule
  • The schedule is demanded by a large taunting deadline and needs to be agile to react to sudden problems.
