Week 6: Electronics design
This is the first assignment I missed documenting on time because of the events occured at fabLAB Asturias during march. Even though I have designed boards in the past it's been a long time since the last one, as usually David, my instructor, takes most of the electronic design at fabLAB. I have used OrCAD during the degree and my final project, and then switched to free EAGLE when I didn't had access to OrCAD. But for this assignment I wanted to switch again and try KiCAD. David has been using it for more than a year now and if he says it's amazing, it surelly will. He started using it when we watched the Interactive routing video. It was very convenient that Anders posted a library for the fab inventory, thanks Anders!
Making the schematic
I then made it cleaner by using labels
Some libraries were called but not found, those are old libraries, just remove them on libraries list
Once dependences were ok, you can select a footprint for each component
Let's make some order out of this mess
Left some space bottom left for the extra switch and LED
Just added the LED and switch circuits to convenient placed pins
And place the components
Added an outline for cutting the board
Nice measures
When I got to the DRC, clearance was set at 0,2 and should be 0,4 for our mills
The list of non-compliances
After fixing DRC the board is slightly wider
No 3D components by that time, but checked the workflow for 3D
Manufacturing and programming the board is pending!
