Machine design

Week 10

PCB milling machine !

This week Machine Design our group continued the development of the project started last week of Mechanical Design.

Now it was time to do the electronics and the programming to get our machine to work.

You can see the development of our group work and our final PCB milling machine in:

  • Micro-Milling machine just for PCBs
  • ELETRONIC and PROGRAMING

Now is the time to make the electronics and the programming of the motors to receive the code and move the platform in the axes x and y

For this we use as an electronic board:

  • Ramps 1.4 from a regular 3D printer

  • We put a battery cable of the type:

  • 12V 5A Power Supply

  • And we use:

  • Nema 14 Stepper Motors
  • Endstops with mechanical switchs

  • To connect the Micro-machine to our computer, we use the software: Pronterface.

  • You can download here: Pronterface

  • In Pronterface it is necessary to set the COM port of the machine, and press connect, and the machine must be automatically connected to the computer

In the program, it is easy to manually bypass the printer by using the arrows on the software to move the platform.

Press Connect. The Pronterface right pane should show data related to a successful connection.

Now you can manually control the printer by using the arrows to find out for yourself which axis is which.

We did an experiment with a pen to see the result

    Everything went well :)
