About me

Computer Aided Desing

That Was Intense!

Ok, that was really hard for me, probably took more time than it should but, in the end it was rewarding as well.

My final cad drawing was a water and food raiser for my dog, he's 7 years old at the time im writing this, Feberuay 21st 2017, and as he gain more white fur he also became more limited, more calm and sadly older.

My idea is to make hes meals more ergonimc and confortable possible, making the digestion of the food easier.

I choosed AutoCAD as my main software because my ant, Andrea,is a experient civil engineer and she uses AutoCAD as well, so when i find my self in trouble she always helped my out.

After a fast google search i find some "CNC Joints" and that was my startig point. I choose to use "Finger Joints" as i thougth it would be easier to draw, finger joits are basicaly rectangles that fit thogether both in perpendicular and horizontal ways, after that i watched a video on"How to make parametric drowings on AutoCAD"

That was my starting point, afterwards it was just draw the shape i wanted using the "circle" and the "line" tool, measure the bowl and the material, used 9mm MDF, and put all the parameters on my drawing using the comand "Parameters Maneger"

Now every time i need to make another size is just a metter os changing the parametres using the "parameters manager", there is no need to redraw the entire model

In this assigment i also used the 3d option you have on AutoCad, but it is a lot of tools and comands, for me it was not as simple to use the 3d features, so in order to understand more i looked for tutorials and use playlist bellow to lern more

to begin with you have to switch to the ''3D Basics" option on the top center-left part of the window, and just then you will see the 3d tools apear on the top of the window so if you have any trouble using it just head for This playlist for more detail information.

IT TOOK ME 13 DAYS TO FINISH! The hardest part was making the actual "fingers", i had to start all over 2 times,my first drawing was in inches, the second one was in Milimeters, on my third attempt i made things right, this time in centimeters. i needed to calculate the finger with and without kerf with was .15mm in the laser cutter we have. Just as a reminder I'm a Business Student and i have never touched AutoCAD before, the role process will defenely go a lot quicker now that i know how a CAD drowing works.Files Avaliable Here

I have tried to use GIMP, the main tools are on the top left corner, to use then is just click and use on you image.

I also tried Inkscape, wich was ok but the sofware I got most used to it was Corel Draw x8.

The layout is super intuitive, all the most used tools are readily avaliable and it has more features than the preavious ones. Corel Draw its not free, but FabLab Facens had a copy on the computer, with licence obviusly
