COMPUTER CONTROLLED MACHINING
WEEK 7 -FAB ACADEMY 2016

— DESIGN PHASE —
For this week we were asked to do "something big". I decided to make a tall table inspired by indigenous forms and shapes. I started to analyze the “Aracauno” symbols in textiles and saw an opportunity. The pattern and geometries forms are always closed so in order to use them as for the top of the table I had to decompose elements and start to design from scratch.
Before starting I needed to have some parametric control over the design. After all, designing the whole pattern would consume a lot of a time and some of the parts could copy/paste themselves. I started pretty much like an “8-bit or minecraft” design method. I started with 0.5 grid and started to understand the geometry of the following symbols:
For the base I took inspiration of the serpent reference or "willodmawe ninim" and made a "waffle style" base that would think play with the whole concept.

We ran out of material, to be done!
