Week 5_3D scanning and printing

During this week I scanned and printed 3d way.

Testing

By the first in our Fablab we test our 3d printers, an Ultimaker and a Materia 101.
I downloaded this Thingiverse testing project:

Than trough cura I printed it by the Materia101 and those are the results:

The printer seems to be in good settings:
M4 Nut perfectly fit in his seat and holes measure exactly 3/4 and 5mm.
The minimum distance between walls is 0.3mm.
Max overhang: is 45°.
All bridges went good, surface were flat and dimension were corrects.
All the other testings we made are fully described by my fellas ( Stefano, Stefano, Gianfranco and Marco).

Scanning

By the first I decided to make a 3dmodel of the most popular italian gesture: the wtf gesture! :D
I started using a Kinect for Xbox360 with Skanect software.

The model at the end of the process was fine but not yet printable cause I ain't bought the software and I was not able to save enought mesh.

I made a second scanning process using the Sense 3d Scanner.

The model, after a bit of postproduction, was pretty much the same of the first one but this time it was printable.

This is the result after importing the model in Rhino than in Cura and printing with the Materia 101.

Printing

For the 3dprinting assignement I started prototyping something for my final project.

As support for the film that will be processed in my machine I should use something like this.

The first idea was recycle this computer fan grill cover stuff from old pc, but there where no one with the correct dimension, so I started modelling my spiral:

After I printed various time on my home diy Mendel 3dprinter.

Those are my preliminary results:

After that I printed a tool for my lomogrpahy sprocket rocket that you can find here.
