The Green Fab Lab

‘Learning from nature to change the world’

The Green Fab Lab works towards the creation of a self-sufficient habitat and research centre at Can Valldaura. Located in the Collserola Natural Park, in the heart of the metropolitan area of Barcelona it has laboratories for the production of energy, food and things, and develops projects and academic programmes in association with leading research centres around the world. The Green Fab Lab offers an opportunity to learn directly from nature in order to bring that understanding to the regeneration of 21st-century cities.

Final Project

In the context of Self-Sufficient cities, sustainable way of producing local food is key. So, imagine if every family or community, was empowered to grow local, affordable, fresh vegetable and cultivating fish at the same time.
Aquaponics combines conventional aquaculture (fish farming) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water without soil) in a symbiotic environment and offer the opportunity for us all to produce sustainable and local food within our cities.
The idea would be to develop an indoor garden that enables people to grow fresh, flavorful, and healthy food year-round.
