hello. i'm alaena

It's very nice to meet you!

Philosophy (why fab academy?)

Until recent years, it was prohibitively complicated and expensive for an inventor to bring new ideas from sketches to protoype. Now, its possible to put creations back in to the control of the layperson by leveraging the large open source hardware and software community.

It is my goal to demonstrate how one person can, with very little experience, transform ideas into things (bits into atoms!) while using as little commercially available prototyping services as possible.

About Me

I'm excited to be a student at Fab Academy 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts. The world changing power of past industrial revolutions has fascinated me, and I want to keep updated while we delve into this newest revolution.

I am so excited about the global opportunities that open source communities and locally available machinery can open around the world. Individual production + manufacturing is a step toward self sufficiency for all, so I'm eager to learn.

What I do

For Work: I am the lead product manager at School of Motion. We are a distributed learning platform that aims to provide comprehensive courses in motion design. My background is in plastics manufacturing, supply chain, and finally short run production management.

For Play: I try to stay up with the local arts and music scene in New England. When I'm not at a show, you can probably find me scribbling nonsense into a notebook, running around a beach with my dog, or generally not taking myself too seriously.
