Final Project Proposal

Idea

what will it do?

Ever since I started Fab academy, I changed my final project a lot... (I guess twice? I know I'm very inconsistent). And here's my final-final project proposal. For my final project, I'll make a 'Questioning Machine' or more like a 'Talking Machine'. I got an idea from fortune cookies. I like those silly stuffs because some of them are actually brilliant and always make me think.

who's done what beforehand?

So what I want to make is a thing talking to people. Not like answering machine(recorded voice), I prefer a text. I did some research and found those genious product/project.

Isn't it awesome? It's a basically magic 8 ball but in the form of Jesus! And gets more reliability. I have no idea how does magic 8 ball works, my final project is going to be look like this.


Shower thoghts

Shower thought's printer is cool project. You can see more details frome here. It is a arduino contained manneqine head which is connected to wifi. This project is well documented and I'll follow most of steps. I already made '3d printed-me' and mold of myself during previous weeks, so I guess I cae use any of those for my final project.


Description

what parts and systems will be made?

In summary, 'Talking machine' is a useless machine talking to you about random things. It keeps making you think about silly but serious stuffs eg. ’how can you define a happiness with your own words’.

When the button pressed (or touch pad), machine starts asking you. It displays a sentence on lcd panel or send you a alret via mobile. Random sentences are from web server and downloaded over a Wi-Fi connection.

what processes will be used?

To make this work, I have to

  1. Make a MCU which is connected to web via Wifi
  2. Build a web server to store questions
  3. Connect input device to main board
  4. Add output device(lcd display or light)
  5. Make a casing
  6. Programme an application

what materials and components will be required?

Material and components needed

  • Arduino-like MCU
  • Wifi module
  • Lcd display module
  • Casing; either mold&cast or 3d printing

what tasks need to be completed?

This project would cover

  • Molding and casting
  • 3D scaninng
  • Input & output device
  • Networking
  • Embedded programming
  • Electronics design
  • CNC pcb milling
  • Interface and application programming(only if I have time, this is extra feature)

Over the course of 3 months, I've made

what questions need to be answered?

So what left.

  • how can I connect to web via wifi?
  • how can I build a web sever?
  • what kind of application will be needed?
  • which material will be used for casting?

Due dates for each task,

  • 2. Jun: Test a wifi connection
  • 3. Jun: Design a pcb board and with input and output device
  • 5. Jun: Build a web server and finish other programming works
  • 6. Jun: Casing (probably it takes long time, I better start working with programming. Then I can programm while waiting). If I'm in a really hurry, this part could be skipped.
  • 8. Jun: Demo videos and documentation
