MOLDING AND CASTING
WEEK 10 -FAB ACADEMY 2016

— DESIGN A 3D MOLD —
For this week I decided to make a mold using my own 3D scanned head. In order to do this I took the original STL file and trim it down to the head only. Afterwards I made the mold that would contain it. I was afraid of the quality of the model since it was in quite a "high resolution" level so I made another one in low-poly. At the end the first one worked.
With RhinoCAM the high level detail model worked! Because it only counts the "top view" of the model. For more detail and saving some time. We drill in 3 different directions.
— SILICONE MOLD PROCESS —
Since the wooden mold worked perfectly, we made the mixture and poured it inside. We are still waiting the result!
— RESULTS —
The whole process went okay, I need to be more careful with the bubbles. The mold had a very tiny space for the nose and a bubble went there so I didn't cast well there.
