Natural gestures- gaming controller

Time and time again I have been deeply fascinated by the game Temple Run.

It entices and takes you to a world of being hunted.

While the beast is running behind you, your still trying to collect points to develop powers to stay in the game.

Perfect imitation of our life, but the hardware always takes the life out of this game .

Always felt that the full immersive environment goes missing on a touch screen, one is controlling the character, its merely a puppet not one himself.

This issue can be easily solved with the Kinect but then, this being a supper addictive game, Kinect tends to tire one out pretty quick.

Playing on a keyboard is pretty dull, your trying to jump buy pressing a key down, which just takes away the complete feel of the game.

So in order to make it more responsive to natural gesture I developed a concept with my colleague and now I have set on myself to develop this into a complete product.

Grumbling Light

I was curiously looking around the lab for some issues that can be resolved with the skills I would learn in FabAcademy.

There are usability concerns with  furniture, doors, machine management, but a simple thing that really becomes a bothersome issue is noise.

FabLab is a co-working space, there are people working solo and in teams, and many times in flow of discussions and work, people don't realize that their conversation is intruding into others comfort of work. Its not very hospitable and there's no appropriate way for making them aware about it.

A device that could convey this message in a subtle manner would work wonders. It can be a ceiling mounted lamp, that beams a colored light(softly glowing and fading way) when the noise levels go up.  (Thought of employing light came in because it is the best non intruding way, sound would be too harsh). The device can be a stern looking piece that would appear authoritarian and can also start grumbling(depicted via  movement) when the noise level start climbing up, signaling that others may get disturbed and if the critical level is reached, the soft lights beams.

After exploring various options I have narrowed it down to two projects, out of which I would prototype one during the tenure of the course.
