Designing a 3D mold

Since my final project is smart suitcase, I decided to make wheels using molding & casting.



I decided to make two part mold. The method used for casting objects using two part molds is explained in the following image.



Accordingly,I designed the two parts of mold in solidworks.

Machining the mold in Wax

Then I milled both parts of mold in wax using Roland milling machine Model A MDX-40 which we have in our lab.

Here is the mold parts milled in wax..

Creating the mold.

Then I made the mold using resins. I used platinum silicon rubber part A and part B for making mold.

I mixed both the resins in 1:1 ratio & then poured it into wax part..

Then I kept it for 24 hours. After 24 hours, I got the molds.

Casting the part

Then I mixed both the resins in 1:2 ratio & then poured it into both molds. I kept it for 24 hours. After 24 hours, I got the casted wheels.
