FINAL PROJECT
SO FOR MY FINAL PROJECT IDEA, I WANT TO DRAW FROM MY BACKGROUND IN FASHION AND FOCUS ON AN E-TEXTILE ORIENTATED OUTPUT.
SO FOR MY FINAL PROJECT IDEA, I WANT TO DRAW FROM MY BACKGROUND IN FASHION AND FOCUS ON AN E-TEXTILE ORIENTATED OUTPUT.
Here is my initial concept sketch. Our mentor is Ohad from FABlab Israel and in our discussions we agreed to use a common theme, namely "Make something you can play with". The idea I am drawing from therefore is to have a level of participation / a participatory design approach between the textile / garment and the user / audience. I plan to make a textile garment and give it an interactive function. The skills honed and acquired during the Academy will enable me to execute the task and push my boundaries.
In our mentoring session today our mentor - OHAD - discussed listing components and really thinking about the various elements we want to incorporate. The project proposal is definitely interactive and therefore will require INPUT, OUTPUT and CONTROLLER as well as PHYSICAL elements.
I am inspired by a project which was done at MIT by Kelly Dobson, it is really awesome!
So the basic elements that I am contemplating can be seen here below.
It is not really like the screambag project you see in the video above, but the inspiration is the idea of the bag and how one can rethink a garment and it's capabilities and functionality using sensors, motion and sound. I am also inspired by Imogen Heap's Mi.Mu gloves which you can see in the below video. I plan to incorporate sound and motion into my final project so both of these videos are really interesting content to me.
This is also a great resource called e-broidery
which was co-authored by Neil and it highlights various options to include electronics in garments.
I am now starting to delve deeper into the possibilities using the sensor inclusion in my garment and how the output could be visualised and/or heard. I am not particularly musical so I do also realise that sticking to a draw output may be easier at this stage. I found this video below and it is really awesome! THE QUESTION AT THIS JUCTION IS WHAT IS THE NEED? WHAT WOULD YOU NEED AS AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR OPTION OR ELECTRONIC COMPONENT ON A GARMENT/WEARABLE ITEM THAT IS NOT JUST SUPERFLOUS, BUT RATHER SOMETHING OF VALUE?
MORE INFORMATION COMING SOON
..... I am experimenting with some items - check my RANDOM page for more info.
