...I am going to start experimenting with some etextiles items we have in the lab which I have not had time to even touch since they arrived - stay tuned for what happened next!
So I spent some time reading the E-BROIDERY article and got some extra lessons in something like e-textiles using ARDUINO before trying out some concepts in lieu of my final project. I also worked on finding or making a glove - a bought one was used for test purposes, and I had some help working out how a circuit - after using the breadboard - translates into using CONDUCTIVE THREAD instead. My EQUIPMENT WAS A SIMPLE EMBROIDERY CIRCLE, A PIECE OF FELT, CONDUCTIVE THREAD, AND LED, RESISTOR AND BATTERY WITH HOLDER.
So it blinked! It was a pretty quick stitch up from the GROUND and POWER legs of the LED and the battery in the long-term would need to be hidden. In this case I have just put it on the surface so that it is easier to see how everything works. FELT is also not the best fabric for the task because it tears apart quite easily when pushing and pulling in the electronic components.
Next up I attached a flex sensor to arduino and wanted to see what happened. Below you will see the video of the flex sensor. I have not sewn it in yet, but rather just taped it up and checked what happened on my serial monitor in the arduino programme. It was pretty awesome! So you will see that on one hand, the LED was blinking when I flexed the sensor, because we had programmed it to pick up a minimum and maximum flex reading and then make the LED light up. Secondly below you will see the reading which indicated the maximum and minimum in order for the programming to be done and so that the LED would blink. I am now considering what and how to impliment these elements into my final project.
