My name is Johnathan Yen and I am currently an American international student in Germany, studying at the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in the Digital Media M.A. program. I am originially from the San Francisco Bay Area, more specifically Oakland, California. My background lies in design of various kinds. My bachelors degree focused heavily on traditional and digital arts while my professional experiences are with graphic design and game design.
I came across the FabLab world when I had a lecture from the director of FabLab Kamp-Lintfort, Karsten Nebe, and attended an Arduino workshop with Adriana Cabrera. I was so amazed at the facility and its creative possibilites that I jumped at the chance to be a volunteer at the FabLab. Over the past eight months I have gone from pretty much no knowledge to creating a variety of projects for my studies and contributed to projects for the city of Kamp-Lintfort. The FabLab has pretty much become my home away from home. What FabAcademy means for me is the chance to solidify the skills I have learned so far and give myself the challenge of creating a project further in complexity and completion than before.
Over my time at FabLab Kamp-Lintfort I have made and participated in a variety of projects using many aspects of the lab. They are briefly summarized below:
