WEEK 18 INVENTION, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, AND INCOME

Summarised two kinds of licences and explained why you chose one.
Imagined and outlined possibilities and described how to make them probabilities for diseminating the final project.

-INVENTION-

My final project is aimed to be shared. My final goal is to have product that can be reproduced home or can be bought as a kit. There are two parts, the sensing device, and the display. To be honest on an ideal world I will make ant+ communication work and the display part will be only a calibration module, but right now is the only way of displaying data. I as an amateur cyclist want as many riders training by wats as possible. It is the present and future of cyclist training. Reducing the price of the kit to be an affordable gadget is an important part of it, but what I would love is to people to want to recreate it themselves. For that reason all my files will be available on my Final Project Documentation webpage, and shortly also on its own github.

-INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY-

As I wanted it to be an Open Source and shareable thing I went to Creative Commons and research their license options. I doubted a lot between 2 of them.

Attribution 4.0 International

It allows everyone to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format), Adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the material) for any purpose, even commercial by giving attribution to the maker.

Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International

It allows everyone to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format), Adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the material) for any purpose that is not a commercial use and by giving attribution to the maker.

I gave it a lot of thinking and according to my view of my project I decided to stick with the Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license. I want as many people to do this kit in their houses to understand how simple this device is, but I don’t want people to sell it, as for my dissemination idea I think on a crowd founding campaign.

Creative Commons License
.

-INCOME & DISSEMINATION-

To be honest I never intended to get any income from this project, just to understand the theory that lies behind the powermeters. Any project if the project ever gets to the point I would like to get, I think a good crowdfounding campaign, offering already made kits of the open source files, that anyone can assemble and mount on their bikes could be a good way to get the project going. As for dissemination there are a lot of sport and bike bloggers and magazines that try and test stuff. This is a media that a lot of people interested follow so sending a couple of the kits to them, combined with presence on the social media would make a huge impact.
