Final Project Proposal
For my final project I want to build a Robotic Snail.
The robot will move freely on the ground taking data about the quality of the
ground and of the air (pollution, temperature, humidity etc.). Data will be
shared with the users in a way that I hope to define during the next weeks.
Learning objectives
This project combines several aspects that are relevant to me.
First of all, I love snails :)! I've thought many times to set up a snails farm but I never did it...
Having said that, I looked at the different modules of fab academy and I tried
to figure out what I want to learn from each one of them and use single modules
to build part of Fab Snail.
As a result, in order to build a robotic snail I need to deeply investigate:
- Electronics: I need the whole system to let Fab Snail move and retrieve data from sensors (I think it will be a quite challenging task)
- Molding and casting: Fab Snail must have a body (snail-like body….otherwise she
will be discriminated by the other snails!) and a solid carapace. I think this will give me the opportunity to investigate material properties and to play (a lot) with different ones.
- Programming: My goal is to give to Fab Snail a snail-like behavior. It would be nice if I could build something that can move and simulate the basic behaviors of a snail (what a snail would do if there is too much sun?)
- Networking and communication: I want to communicate data acquired from the Snail in some way (web application?mobile application?) that I still have to define
To be honest I think that I will have much more stuff to investigate and much more
troubles than the ones that I have now in mind but I like to start from a task that is really challenging.
My main concern is about the organization of the job. I'm basically new to the Fab Academy
teaching method (which I think is really heavy) but I really want to learn about it.
Special thanks to my friend Vicky for the drawing :).
