Week 18
Week 18:
Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income
Assignment:
Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project
Prepare a summary slide and Video Clip in your root directory
Invention:
The idea of an automatic cat feeder it not an original idea (even though when I was trying to think of a problem to solve I had no idea they existed!). I am thrilled that through this course I have learned how to create something that will solve a problem that I have and make my life easier. I am also excited for my work to hopefully help others in solving a similar problem for them.
Intellectual Property:
After doing some research on the different options on how to protect my creative information I found the https://creativecommons.org/ to be best for me. There are a few types of licensing under the creative commons bubble that can also be combined for unique choices that are easily applicable to many different situations. They are Share-alike, Non-commercial, Attribution and No Derivative Works.
Here is what I found from the https://creativecommons.org/:
https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/
https://creativecommons.org/choose/
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/
Kitty Matic by Kayla Proctor is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License
I have also researched the MIT license and agree that this will help protect myself and is a way to share my work with others.

Dissemination Plan:
Step 1: Look at what other products similar to mine have done and compare my product to theirs.
Step 2: Think of a company that might want to license the product (The Kitty Matic). Then meet with them to see what the benifits of this route would be.
Step 3: Test the product in the market and create a survey for the target market to complete. Determine retail price.
Step 4: Make any changes to the design that might benifit the product or change cost to make it less expensive to produce and increase profit.
Step 5: Look at margins of cost/retail and licensing the product to another company.
Step 6: If I choose to create my own company go on kickstarter or gofundme to raise money for the company. I would also look for investors.
