Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income:

The goal of this week is to develop a plan for dissemination of your final project. For me the best word to describe this week is "share", since I have been envolved with the fablab and how I noticed the way that everything works here and that its all about sharing knowledge with everyone.

Regarding my project and as I'm fully supporting the idea of sharing knowledge it will be under Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)

Creative Commons License
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

Why:

So why did I choose this license and not any other, actully at the beginging I was going for the MIT license which is similar to this with the idea of sharing your work , but then I discoverd that it allows for commercial use which am against it for my project. For me I think this is the best way of doing things, because no matter how hard you work on a project or something and wether you finish it or not you will end up in a place at that time that you are no longer able to give more to the project, maybe because at this time you dont have enough knowledge and if allowed others to have a look at what you did and try to improve on it, of course after giving you credit maybe the project will end up being better also some people have different views on things and they might help, what am trying to say is when you make something for the sake of improving life or make a certain process easier its all about the project not about you, so give the people the chance to help.

Income:

Since the project is open source, I dont think there will be an income gained from it. That is, everyone will be able to download all the designs and the codes, and share them as well as make or adjust their own. but then I ask myself this question, Why would someone pay for something when he can make it for free? well I think the answer is because people are busy as well as lazy, I mean really why bother making something when I can pay maybe the same amount of money and savetime to someone who will make it for me.

Now Regarding marketing my project, the first I did was giving the project a nice name which I called it "Desert Surfer", I think if it really succeed it will be really popular here in the middle east as most of the land is made of sand, but as putting the project open to everyone am not really thinking that much about the income or how I can really benfit from it, the only thing am thinking right now is how to improve and make sure that the project will work perfectly.

Starting a company:

Our Guru Mr. Francisco always asks what If someone wants me to make like a 8000 skateboards for him, well I will just send him the link to my archive with a message "Do It Yourself" XD, but when you think about it the number looks attracting, maybe at that moment I will think of making my own company, as I think that I might find alot of fund for the project since it only belongs to this area of the world as well as its a new way of doing something (skating). or maybe start a Kickstarter campain to raise some money that will help in starting a company.

Sharing the project:

Of course as the project is an open source project, I would love to share my project with the world as my archive will be always there, as well as if someone want to come and visit me in the lab for anything regarding the project I will be more than happy to do so.

Future thoughts:

maybe at the moment am not thinking that much about income, but I think that the time will come when I start, I mean I never thought that I would be here right now discussing the ways to sell or market a project that made, but as I said before sooner or later the time will come when we want to progress in life start a company marry, have kids or buy a lambo XD and with no money I dont think I will be able to do any of that, so maybe later on I will consider the income of this project or any other that I might make.
