At the Fab Academy, we learn how to envision, prototype and document our ideas through many hours of hands-on experience with digital fabrication tools.
The Fab Academy Diploma consists of a 5 month part-time student commitment, from January to June. The Fab Diploma is the result of the sum of Fab Academy Certificates. Progress towards the diploma is evaluated by a student’s acquired skills rather than time or credits.
The Fab Academy is a fast paced, hands-on learning experience where students like us plan and execute a new project each week. Each of us documents our progress for each project, resulting in a personal portfolio of technical accomplishments.
I am a Mechanical Engineer by graduation and also have a post graduate degree in Product Design and Development. I am working with the engineering services team of a large consulting firm, for a decade now. And in my current role I am mentoring fresh recruits during their initial training months at my organisation.
My heart was always on making, or more correctly, 'trying to make' things. Which has recently being boosted with the energy and curiosity inspired from my little son Ethan. I came to know about fablab via an news paper article, and as soon as I visited it about 2 years back, I had a feeling of being a child again having lot of toys to playwith. As part of the training projects at work, we have used the fablab a couple of times. And I did not had a second thought to join fabacademy when I learned about it this year. And after the go-ahead from my boss, here I am doing the fabacademy on part-time mode.
I currently reside at Trivandrum, in Southern India, with my wife Nithya and son Ethan. I am very excited to be part of Fabacademy 2017, and I hope to learn the many tools and techniques that could help me make (nearly) anyhing as the course tag-line goes.
I would also like to thank my supervisors and collegues at work, instructors and fellow academy students, and all the fabacademy fraternity for this wonderful opportunity.
