WEEK 2 - COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN

ASSIGNMENT

2D - INKSCAPE

The first thing I did was to sketch the neck of the guitar. To do that I used the fret position calculator on Stewmac.com to find out the scale length. On the picture below there is a tablet of common scale lengths. I decided to use Paul Reed Smith 24 frets, so the scale length would be 635 mm (25.000").

After I calculated the scale lenght I got this tablet below that shows the scale length from a fret to fret.

Using Inkspace I drew the neck, the frets and the rest of the guitar. I used the guideline tool to put the frets in right places (see on the image below on the left). It has to be done perfectly so the guitar sounds right. After the neck was ready I designed my own shape of the guitar and the headstock. Then I located the bridge and compared that to the scale length. The guitar is not in the right proportions in the image below.

3D - FUSION 360

I saved the Inkscape document as a SVG file and opened it in Fusion 360. As a beginner in 3D modeling I started to work with the guitar-body because I found it easier than the neck.

The outlines are in the colour green which means they were locked, so I had to unlock them to move them. I separated the body from the neck. I extruded the body and curved the corners 3 mm. Then I made a hole for the pickup, box for the bridge (there will only be screw holes for the bridge), two buttons for volume and tone and three switches for the LED lights and the other for guitar effects.

ANTIMONY

It was my first time using Antimony so I wasn ́t sure how to use it. I made a lot of thin boxes and put a sphere inside. The goal was to difference the sphere from the boxes and make a lamp shade.

For fun I made another project with cubes and cones. I made a big cube with a cone inside which I differenced from the cube. Then I put eight cubes on the big cube and difference them from the big one. There was no goal with this project except to get to know Antimony better.
