The concept
The idea is to create a network of sensors in the forest area of Valldaura which can collect multiple types of data and transmit it to a central device inside the Green FabLab. The data will relate to events that take place in the area, deriving from the environment, the local ecosystem and human (inter-)action (with)in it. The types of data will vary from movement and sound to environmental conditions like wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity or light. Infrared sensors, microphones,... and light sensors will be used for this purpose⦠The data will be harvested by the sensors and transmitted through radio to micro-controllers in junction points. From there they will be transmitted again to an output device inside the Green FabLab and stored in libraries for further analysis or editing.
Defining the problem
The need to learn more about the natural environment, as well as the need to redefine the challenges to create spaces that incorporate rather than exclude nature can be served by collecting data from the forest area of Valldaura. Until now, the collection of data is mostly observation-based or static. The ability to track the forest's events in a dynamic manner could produce an important database of information to be used in further projects, from environmental research to small or medium scale, site and condition specific architectural interventions. At the same time, data analysis could enable improvements in automation along with providing useful information to researchers, scientists or architects.

NOTE: The initial idea of a final project can be found here. I consider the above to be an evolution of my thoughts, taking into account more the possibilities and challenges faced on site in the Green FabLab in Valldaura.
