What is Project Plan ?

A project plan is a formal document designed to guide the control and execution of a project. A project plan is the key to a successful project and is the most important document that needs to be created when starting any business project.

In IT, the term project plan refers to a a Gantt chart or any other document that displays project activities along a timeline. However, considering these documents alone as a project plan is inaccurate. These particular documents can be more precisely termed as project schedules, and may be considered only a part of the actual project plan.

A project plan is used for the following purposes:

  • To document and communicate stakeholder products and project expectations
  • To control schedule and delivery
  • To calculate and manage associated risks

    Workflow of making project plan

FAB DATA Glass - FAB DG

    What will it do?

It will get the data from sensors and display on the screen which is viewed on the reflector plate, and also i was also thinking to future development to get the data from the Easy Tester

    Who's done what beforehand?

I have got the idea of making the Fab Data Glass from the Instructables Project Called Arduino Data Glass for Multimeter by Alainsprojects which is the device getting the data from a commerical multimeter and giving the data to the glass.i was very intrested to fabricate my own well integrated system.

What materials and components will be required?

    1. 1x 1nF Ceramic Capacitor
    2. 1x 10nF Ceramic Capacitor
    3. 4x 100nF Ceramic Capacitor
    4. 2x 22pF Ceramic Capacitor
    5. 1x OLED Display
    6. 2x Schottky Diode

    18. 1x 470 ohm resistor
    19. 1x 15k ohm resistor
    20. 1x 2k2 ohm resistor
    21. 1x 200k ohm resistor
    22. 2x 1k ohm resistor
    23. 2x 10k ohm preset(Variable Resistance)
    24. 1x 16MHz Crystal Oscillator
    25. 1x ATMEGA 328/328p with Socket
    26. 2x Red LED
    27. 1xDHT11 Sensor
    28. 1xBMP180 Sensor
    29. 1x LDR

    Where will they come from?

Most of the componenets are available from Fab inventory and some extra capacitors, resistors and transistors,OLED's i had to purchase locally.and i have ordered some small OLED from ALI EXPRESS

    How much will it cost?

    ~20$

What parts and systems will be made?

The whole project was divided into four different sections

    1. Electronic Design and fabrication
    2. Mechanical Design and Fabrication
    3. Embedded programming
    4. Integration and packaging

For each of the processes different parts will be there which are listed below.

    Electronic Design and fabrication

    • PCB Design
    • Atmega328P based PCB fabrication
    • Sensor board with DHT11,BMP180,LDR and 4 switches
    • Integration pcb design and fabrication

    Mechanical Design and Fabrication

    • Design of the Casing CAD Design
    • Two part casing for easy assembly
    • cutting acrylic mirror
    • making reflector

    Embedded programming

    • Programming the board

    Integration and packaging

    • Integration of all the parts
    • Pcb assembly
    • Final assembly of the glass
    • Storage case design and fabrication
    • Vinyl stickering

    What processes will be used?

I am planning to use the following process in each section for making FAB DATA GLASS

    Electronic Design and fabrication

    • PCB design using eagle
    • Double sided pcb fabrication using Modela MDX20
    • Soldering of the pcb

    Mechanical Design and Fabrication

    • Case design using Rhinocerous
    • Ultimkaer 3D printer for case printing
    • creating the c-clamps for the fixing the case

    Integration and packaging

    • soldering and integrating the main board and sensor board
    • Vinyl cutting of labels and stickers
    • fixing the acrylic c-shaped glass holder with chloroform
    • Laser cutting of Storage case using Trotec speedy 100 in 4mm plywood

What tasks need to be completed?

I am preparing a shedule for the whole project and is mentioned below, As if now i am started the designing of the PCB and ordered the components from Hyderabad, bangalore and China. The remaining task needs to be completed as per the schedule.

what questions need to be answered?

As the time duration for the project is limited , i am planning to add the basic features only. I have planned to just show the data from the sensors infornt of the eye using a reflector

  • Is the display data screens toggleable using the tactile switches
  • Is the optics design will work for the long capilary design
  • What is the schedule?

    FAB DATA GLASS Work Schedule

    How will it be evaluated?

The FAB DATA GLASS is a Smart glass, . so it could be assessed in stages,
There could be a basic level:

    • Did your stuff, mill and tested the electronics and they are working ?

    • YES
    • Is the 3D printed case and the optics are working?

    • YES
    • Did you assemble hardware and software all together and be able to show the data on the Reflector

    • YES

That would be the minimum 3points to pass.
Then extra features could be evaluated:

    • Did you took a Working video of the screen

    • YES
    • Could you to create an action while using switches

    • YES
    • Could you able to get the data from sensor board

    • YES

    Finally super extra points
if any of these conditions are met:

    • Did you improve the design of the glass

    • YES
    • you where able to create low cost augumented Display

    • YES

    Future Development

In future the development of the project can be found at the public repo on the git hub here I belive i can build a good low cost easy to acess smart messeage reader in future using this same device i will be able to continue the product development after the fab academy.

    Finally What I learned

Do not underestimate the value of this assignment. For me its very importance with the product. This is the documentation of your final project, fabbers should be able to replicate your project with your notes, and it is not only addressed to the people who doesn't know anything about it. It is also for you. They say that your memory has no limits but in a year you probably won't remember most (if any at all) of the details. Also, documenting is not a one shot process. It is a continuous and iterative process. I keep adding, removing and modifying content all the time till I am satisfied (which actually, never occurs).
