F week 17 FabAcademy 2016

week seventeen

The assignment for this week is plan and document the final project integrating the range of units covered.

what will it do?

My final project is a bracelet( wrisplay ) . wrisplay is a bracelet designed such a way that to make people cozy for simple but prickling tasks like slide transition, play, and pause system control etc. A bracelet that will fit your wrist makes you relax and do the job.
This is interfaced to the system via Bluetooth and can control the system within the 10-meter range

who's done what beforehand?

There are lot of presentation controller devices in the world, But I am aiming low cost simple to make product and replication with modification.
I got this idea from Bidirectional Visitor Counter Circuit Principle. I use this same principle in my project to detect the finger motion sensor

what materials and components will be required?

  • Attin y45 microcontroller
  • Bluetooth module
  • IR transmitter and receiver LEDs
  • 3.3v Micro Lithium battery
  • Capacitors , Resistors and a Resonator
  • Copper plate for milling PCB milled
  • Case to put the electronics board (PLA, 3d printed)
  • leather strip (laser cuted )
  • Wires, soldering materials. Rainbow ribbon cable for the fingertip sensors

where will they come from?

Most of the electronics will come from the kerala fab labs inventory.
The blutooth module ordered from Amazone.com.
Leather will be bought locally in respective stores.
Filament for the 3D printer is also in the labs inventory

how much will it cost?

In my project I using the following components and materials

  • Attiny44 (1)
  • IR transmitter and receiver LEDs (4)
  • Bluetooth module (1)
  • 3.3v battery (1)
  • Capacitors (1)
  • Resistors (6)
  • Resonator 8 Mhz (1)
  • leather
  • Rainbow ribbon cable
  • soldering materials
  • Wires
  • Case to put the electronics board (PLA, 3d printed)

Rough estimate including material for tooling: $10 (to produce a one prototype)

what parts and systems will be made?

  • Made electronics board

  • Made a 3D printed case

  • Made an android application

what processes will be used?

Hardware design & production

  1. computer-aided design
    • for 2d model design
    • for 3d model design
    • for the PCB design

  2. 3D printing
    • For print the case to hold microcontroller board and sensors

  3. computer-controlled cutting
    • laser-cutting for make strip of bracelet

Electronics & programing

  1. Electronics design
    • For design the microcontroller board with IR sensors
  2. electronics production
    • For produce double side PCB
  3. Embedded programming
    • for program the microcontroller
  4. input devices | output devices | interfacing

what tasks need to be completed?

  1. Project management
    • Define projects (What is key? Cost, time or Quality?)
    • List all the tasks with time estimations.
    • Add up time and cost (Start with a post-it note chart and find the longest task )

  2. Design
    • Draw rough sketch of product with proper dimension
    • Design 2D structure of product
    • Make 3D design based on 2D structure
    • Design the PCB

  3. Production
    • Mill a 2 sided PCB
    • 3D print the case
    • Laser-cut leather strap or print on flexible substrate
    • solder the microcontroller, sensors and other components to PCB
    • Programming the board
    • Create interface application in android platform

  4. Testsing and debuging
    • Test the PCB board and debug the errors
    • Read and analyze values from sensors
    • Test the size of PCB and 3D printed case is correct fit
    • Test the android application

what questions need to be answered?

?   How can I design a PCB with the minimum possible size?

?   Is the Bluetooth stable with 3.3V battery or is there also need for 5V supply?

?   Which one is the smallest Bluetooth available and Were I get it?

?   How can I interface with a windows desktop application?

what is the schedule?

Proceses and expected time frame is as follows.

  1. 3D designing and printing
  2. • 1 days max ❬ 16/06/2016 ❭

  3. Electronics board designing and manufacturing
  4. • 2 days max ❬ 19/06/2016 ❭

  5. programming and interfacing
  6. • 1 days max ❬ 20/06/2016 ❭

  7. Error fixes and Improvemnts
  8. • 2 days max ❬22/06/2016 ❭

how will it be evaluated?

Hopefully, it will work, and that is the primary "pass" of the evaluation. The biggest challenge to me is what users think. Is it useful and easy to use?
