Idea

I have been working at Fab Lab Egypt for more than 2 years now, and during this period I have faced many people who wanted to learn how to build their own digital fabrication machines, especially 3D printer. Only a very small portion of these people manage to complete their machines, and I have spend some time looking for the reasons why they couldn't make it. One of the main reasons is weak technical background, most of people that I have met has experience in one or two fields at max, for example mahcine design, so they end up with a beautiful structure but with no functionalities. Another factor is that they couldn't find the right tools and materials.

3 months ago, I have been working on a robotics construction kit, that people can use to build robots without getting too much details. So I've been thinking; Can we make such a universal machine construction kit? a kit that anyone can easily use to build his own rapid-prototyping desktop machine.

My project for Fab Acadmey 2016, is to build the Universal Machine Construction Kit (U.M.C.K) that will help spreading the digital fabrication technologies and fab labs. Everyone, will be able to build his own machine with the materials available in his local enivronment. My project will be open-source so anyone can add, edit, and innovate.
