What is 3D Printing

In last four week I work on 2d printing machine but in this week I work on 3d printer and 3d scanner.I make a jwellary design for individual printing and for group assignment we took different test for 3d printer. Then I work on 3d scanner these both things are new for me so in this week I learn many things.

(from wikipedia) 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), refers to various processes used to synthesize a three-dimensional object. In 3D printing, successive layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object. These objects can be of almost any shape or geometry and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source.

3D Printer and softwares required for 3d printer-

The number of 3d printers are available in market but in our fab lab we are using Accucraft i250+ printer.and ABS material I used.

It has

Bed size- 250mm*250mm*200mm

Extruder - single extruder.

Print operation and controlling- With SD card with computer

Printing material- PLA,ABS,Nylon

Filament diameter- 1.75mm.

Bed heating - Up to 110 Degree Celsius.

Software required-

Cura-for Position the object on a bed, resizing and for changing its orientation.

KISSlicer-For making Gcode.

RepetireHost-For machine interface and making gco file.gco file is required for give the print through SD card

Advantages of 3d printer

1.We can print any assembly or part in 3d printer whether it is complex or simple
2.It is usefull to print any complex object
3.No much need of human interferance to takeout the prints

Disadvantages of 3d printer

1.Size limitation
2.Limitation for printing material-we can print limited type of material
3.It doesnt provide good surface finish it needs post processing.

Advantages of 3d scanning

1.Usefull to make 3d files of complex object
2.if we need to duplicate any part then it is possible by 3d scanning

Disadvantage

1.We cannot scan inside object only outside we surface we scan
