for this assignment i wanted to make a mold from the 3D selfie that i made in the week five. i import the 3D file in meshmixer and i clean the parts that i didn't wanted to cast
i import the 2D autocad draw as an sketch in solid works to add the walls, chamfers and volume to the draw
i export the solidworks part as an stl file and i scale it in cura to fit the wax
you can download the files clicking in the name of the file showed in yellow
ABOUT ME
Design a 3D mold, machine it, and cast parts from it
after i clean the model i add a box in thinkercad to make the walls that will keep the silicon in the mold. then i save it as a stl solid part. i open the stl file in cura to scale the mold and to be sure that the size of the mold fit the wax that i had. i save the mold as an stl binary file that is the format that can be processed by the modela and fabmodules. i had problems using the mold of my face because of the shapes and the detail of my face apparently it was too much detail for the fabmodules and the pc crashed every time that i wanted to generate the toolpath for the modela so i decided to make another mold. i download an image of the batman sign and i vectorize it in autocad to make the mold
i save it as an stl binary file in a usb pendrive and then i the linux computer i import the file in fabmodules.
i select mesh to import the 3D file adn the roland MDX-20 mill (modela)
i mill the mold in the wax as i show you in this videos
after i had the mold i make the mixture of the silicone and the catalyst, i use 80 drops of catalyst per 100 ml of silicone i mix the two components and i add the mixture to the mold i use p-48 silicon ruber and diluent to make the silicon mixture and the catalys waqs the tp catalyust wait until the silicone cure and i unmolded the negative silicone mold once i had the negative mold i mix the polyester resin with their special catalyst, both the silicon and the resin have a special catalyst we must mix each material with their correct catalyst for the resin mixture i use the 70/60 polyester resin and the k2000 catalyst i use 40 catalyst drops per 100 grams of resin
i poured the resin in the negative mold and i tap in the table to take out all the bubbles
as you can see there was some imperfections in the object due to air bubbles in the mold so i had to polish the object to get the final product here i will add the datasheet of the resin and the silicon ruber unfortunately the data sheets are in Spanish because of the supplier
