to do the design i use autocad, i planify all the cuts to the wood panel and then i draw it in antocad to export it in .dxf extensition.
once i selected the wood panel measures i import the dxf design. seecting import vectors we open the design
we click on the dog-bones fillet, we select the radius and then we click on the corners that we want to convert in dog-bone fillets once we add the dog-bones we have to set the toolpath so we click on toolpaths menu at right. then we select profile tollpath to cut the edge of the drawing. here we can edit the configuration of the tool, setting the diameter of the tool, the spindle speed that is the speed in rpm that the tool will turn, the feed rate that is the linear speed of the tool cutting and the plunge rate that is the speed the tool will move in the z axis. Feed rate is calculated using the following equation: Feed = N x cpt x RPM N - number of cutting edges (flutes) cpt - chip load (chip per tooth) is the amount of material, which should be removed by each tooth of the cutter as it rotates and advances into the work. (mm per tooth) RPM - the speed at which the cutter revolves in the spindle. (Revolutions per minute) Feed = 2 x 0.28 x 12000 feed 6700 mm/min = 264.56 inhes/min i don't like to work in the limit so to be sure i put 100 as a feed rate
it will preview the cuts in the 3D viewer we close all the options and we click on the tab to exit the 3d viewer. onece we have the toolpaths we save them clicking on the save toolpath icon in toolpath operations we fill the options as shown in the picture with mach 2/3 post processor that is the sofware that we have for the router onece we have the Gcode .txt extension file we can cut the wood panel we will mount the wood panel to the router bead. i will use screws to fix the panel, in the machine we have to set the zero points moving the 3 axis and setting to zero at the point we want
ABOUT ME
make something big For this week assignment i designed and made a closet that fit a bookshelf and a cabinet that i have in my bedroom. i used the cnc large format router to cut all the pieces. first i took measures of the furniture that i have to well fit the new closet with both, i also measure the wood panel to make the most of it in my design. once i had the dxf file i import it in aspire
we will create two tollpaths, the first to cut the internal rectangles and the second to cut the pieces. to set the tool path we write the name and click on calculate at the end of the options.
ASSIGNMENTS
week seven CAM Computer aided manufacturing
we fill all the options as shown in the picture. to cut the 18 mm width wood panel We will do 6 passes using a 1/4 inch cutter
here we have two videos of the cutting process at the end when we have cut all the pieces we sand them and varnish them
FINAL PROJECT
clicking here you can download the .dxf extention file with the closet design i fill the configuration as i show in the picture with the size and width of the wood panel. here we can also choose the units and the zero points. after we import the file, we can add the dog-bone to the corners. to do it we click on the create fillets icon in edit object menu.
i made a mistake in this step because i only add dog-bone fillets to the internal rectangles and i forget to add dog-bones to the tabs, so i had to add the dog bones and i mill it again
