WEEK 18 (31 May 2017)
[Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income]
The assignment for this week is to develop a plan for dissemination of my final project.
Invention
The objective of this final project is to built a Automated Cat Feeder based on recycling materials.
I have two cats Siza (Male) and Zaha Hadid (Female), and I need a smart food dispenser to follow my cat’s food consumption history.
The project is a smart food device "C.A.T'S ", which will dispense an amount of dry food at a chosen time of the day, is perfect for when I must leave my cats alone.
Intellectual Property
I would like this project to be an Open Source project. Open Source is an important way to share not only your ideas but also to receive feedback and implementation by the others. I would like to continue developing this project, and by sharing my work with a greater community I Increase the probability of improving it with ideas from other makers.
I also could use the Creative Common license (CC). That license is one of several public copyright licenses that enables the free distribution of an other wise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use and build upon a work that they have created. CC provides an author flexibility (for example, they might choose to allow only non-commercial uses of their own work) and protects the people who use or redistribute an author's work, so they don't have to worry about copyright infringement, as long as they abide by the conditions that are specified in the license by which the author distributes the work.
For my project in need of choosing one of these options, it would be:
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
Other possibilities:
Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. This is usually only for a limited time. The exclusive rights are not absolute but limited by limitations and exceptions to copyright law, including fair use. A major limitation on copyright is that copyright protects only the original expression of ideas, and not the underlying ideas themselves.
Patent is a set of exclusive rights granted by a sovereign state to an inventor or assignee for a limited period of time in exchange for detailed public disclosure of an invention. An invention is a solution to a specific technological problem and is a product or a process.[1]:17 Patents are a form of intellectual property.
BSD license are a family of permissive free software licenses, imposing minimal restrictions on the redistribution of covered software. This is in contrast to copyleft licenses, which have reciprocity share-alike requirements. The original BSD license was used for its namesake, the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD), a Unix-like operating system. The original version has since been revised and its descendants are more properly termed modified BSD licenses.
Income
I do not wish to start a business around this project but to help people thinking about alternative solutions which doesn't require spending money in an unnecessary way, sometimes spending money is not necessary at all, we just need to look around, and we might find everything we need, at the same time we are leaving the planet cleaner and turning it into a better place to live. This cat feeder was possible with cheaper solutions and also it has as a main goal to sensitize the community about the importance of recycle! An income can be made through selling products produced by recycled constrution materials like this one.
