WEEK 4

MILLING MY OWN PCB

This week we have been working with fab modules to run the milling machine to mill our own circuit boards.

We had loads of trouble to set up the machine to work and communicate with the computer and we only managed to make it work on Sunday (after Ana installed ubuntu on the lab computer and spent long hours on the phone with Bas)

First time we tried to mill the board we set the z=0 a little bit to high and it didn't cut deep enough. On our second try we discovered that the board was not stuck properly and started moving so we had to abort the milling. Third time we succeeded and cut 4 boards straight away - just in case!

SOLDERING

After the circuit board was ready we chose all the tiny components and had to assemble everything together.

I didn't realise the components had a certain orientation so I made a mistake and turned 2 pieces upside down. It was possible to get them off with the heat gun. Soldering was not too bad after all, I have enjoyed it. Now I am looking forward to learn what we can do with the board!
