LESSON TEME: 3D Scanning and Printing

In this week, I tried to print out several 3D objects and scan my body. At first, I printed out a design rules model After printed it out, I check the pricision of our 3D printer. Our 3D printer I used in this time is KEYENCE AGILISTA. AGILISTA is a kind of 3D printer using UV resin as it's material. I also printed out 3D printing textiles which are difficut to make subtractive processes using a kind of a milling machine. These textiles data are here: Chain Mail and Bracelet. Lastly, I tried to scane some objects by using a handy 3D scanner. Our co-workers scanned my body.

Test the Design Rules

The design rules model were printed out by KEYENCE AGILISTA. This 3D printer can output a very pricise object. It took about 4 hours to print out the model. After print out the model, I sank the model into water pool to remove off support materials for all night. Next morning, I picked up the model from the water pool and dried it for a while. The output result seems to be enough good because all slit are constructed and also reproduce the sharp tip in the model data.

3D Printing Textiles

I have prited out only solid models by using several 3d printer. In our local lecture, I knew a genre of 3D Pinting Textiles and wonder that our 3D printer can print out such kind of soft models. So, in this time, I tried to print out two textiles data; one is Chain Mail and the other is Bracelet. I downloaded a Chain Mail File and a Bracelet File from Thingiverse.com By using KEYENCE AGILISTA, it took about 3 hours to print them out. Then, I peel a raft off the models. These models were sank into a water pool to remove out support materials. About 3 hours later, I picked out these models from the water pool and remove out small fragments of support materials by using a sharp spatula. Lastly, I dried these models for a while and weared these models.

Scan My Body

I tried to scan several object by using Sense 3D Scanner. This scanner is a kind of handy scanner. So we can easily use it without calibration process. My co-workers scand my body to keep the device in his hand and walk around me. We found that this work should be very careful becase there are a traking lost when we quickly move the scanner. We took my body for several times because of some mistake-scan. It's difficult to fill several holes on these polygon serface on the scanning work. After that, I checked the scan data by using Meshmixer. I haven't printed out the models yet but surely print out it soon.

Printout My Original Design

I printouted my original designed parts for my final project by using AGILISTA. Figure [23] shows the CAD design of my final project. The side parts to join each wood parts are printouted. Also, I printouted the innter parts to fix the electronic parts. The Figure [24] shows the final appearance of all printouted parts.

Impression

I'm very interested in 3D Printing Textiles. This is my first time to print out such kind of soft models. I have a kind of stereotype that a 3D priter prints out a solid object. But, in this time, my stereotype was overturned when I see the textiles works.
