Week-18 Invention, intellectual property, and income

FAB-360 is a device licensed under

 

Non-commercial: You let others copy, distribute, display, perform, and (unless you have chosen No Derivatives) modify and use your work for any purpose other than commercially unless they get your permission first.

 

Attribution: All CC licenses require that others who use your work in any way must give you credit the way you request, but not in a way that suggests you endorse them or their use. If they want to use your work without giving you credit or for endorsement purposes, they must get your permission first.

 

ShareAlike: You let others copy, distribute, display, perform, and modify your work, as long as they distribute any modified work on the same terms. If they want to distribute modified works under other terms, they must get your permission first.

 

Invention:

 

Fab-360 is tool for taking 360 degree photographs with your smart phones and your camera. I have designed the hardware in such a way that it can be easily fabricated by anyone in the fablab using basic tools and components.

 

Other phase of this hardware is electronics and coding, which may vary from one mounting device(mobile phone / camera, etc) to other.

 

 

Intellectual Property:

 

A patent is a form of right granted by the government to an inventor, giving the owner the right to exclude others from making, using, selling, offering to sell, and importing an invention for a limited period of time, in exchange for the public disclosure of the invention. An invention is a solution to a specific technological problem, which may be a product or a process and generally has to fulfill three main requirements: it has to be new, not obvious and there needs to be an industrial applicability.

 

A copyright gives the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a limited time. Copyright may apply to a wide range of creative, intellectual, or artistic forms, or "works".Copyright does not cover ideas and information themselves, only the form or manner in which they are expressed.

 

An industrial design right (sometimes called "design right") protects the visual design of objects that are not purely utilitarian. An industrial design consists of the creation of a shape, configuration or composition of pattern or color, or combination of pattern and color in three-dimensional form containing aesthetic value. An industrial design can be a two- or three-dimensional pattern used to produce a product, industrial commodity or handicraft.

 

A trademark is a recognizable sign, design or expression which distinguishes products or services of a particular trader from the similar products or services of other traders.

End User License Agreement The most commonly used type of license is the End User License Agreement (EULA) – this is used for all of the paid-for software used on personal computers and is likely to be the model adopted by small businesses and new start-ups. Every new copy of a piece of software which is installed has its own unique license code, regardless of whether or not it has previously been installed.For the details of the licenses check the Link  Creative Common license: CC is a copyright license that allow the free distribution and author can choose what it can be used for(commercial or others) even though it can be share,use and rebuild the same. A Creative Commons (CC) license is one of several public copyright licenses that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that they have created. CC provides an author flexibility (for example, they might choose to allow only non-commercial uses of their own work) and protects the people who use or redistribute an author's work from concerns of copyright infringement as long as they abide by the conditions that are specified in the license by which the author distributes the work. 

Progress of my final Project

Tracking your progress

  • what tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?

      For my final project i have started making hardware in CAD. I have checked other parameters which affect

      the hardware as well as final quality of images. I am looking for a best mobile application which can be

      used for patching the images after taking number of images.

 

      3D printing of parts, Assembly and testing still remain. I have planned to do 3D printing and assembly by

      this week and then testing will be done for different places.

 

  • what has worked? what hasn't?

      Until now i have worked on design part only therefore, right now it is hard to tell you that what is working

      and what isn't.

 

  • what questions need to be resolved?

      questions regarding final quality need to be resolved as i want to make the design and usability as simple

      as possible in such a way that my Grand-mom can also use it.

 

  • what will happen when?

      Working with a time line as i told in above paragraph.

 

  • what have you learned?

      I am making a machine second time in last 2-3 months and this feels great. Making a machine comes with

      so many learning. This project is giving me totally a new insight in 360 photography and virtual reality.

      I hope this machine will do well and will teach me so many things.

Future scope of the product:

 

Here i am making an open source design for taking 360 photographs and videos.

 

When we checked on the Internet, not a single product was below 250 USD.

 

I have decided to make something(a gadget or a tool) which is for anyone, whether you are a traveler, a grandparent, teacher, or anyone.

 

This can a be a tool for anyone.

 

My target is to make this device in maximum 40 USD.

 

And main point is that the processes that used to make this devices should be user friendly.

 

3D printing, CNC milling, Laser cutting, etc are the basic processes that i am using to make this tool.

 

In last one year i have not seen a single person with a mobile phone with less than 8 MP camera, which is good enough to take HD 360 Photographs.

If you are using your mobile phone for these kind of application then memory problem is also solved.

 

Hence i am making something which is small, easy to carry, light weight and compatible with any device.

 

With basic knowledge of 3d printing and electronics you will be able to make this FAB-360

 

All the components i am using here are also easily available everywhere or you can order them Online.

 

There are  number of opportunities for this kind of device if make them for only 45 usd, but  I am looking to make this design open source so that anyone can make this for them.
