Invention, Intellectual property, and Income

Oups !
My final project occupied my time this few weeks...
My final project is born to be shared with other stage managers and technicians, however I decided to protect my work with certificate.
I choose Creative Commons .

Here 's a link to a video (in french) wich explains how a license works.

It offers different levels of protection.

Creative commons license spectrum between public domain (top) and all rights reserved (bottom).
Left side indicates the use-cases allowed, right side the license components.
The dark green area indicates Free Cultural Works compatible licenses, the two green areas compatibility with the Remix culture.
The bright green area alone can be seen as similar to the "fair use" concept, and the yellow area to the "freeware" concept.

I hesitated between 2 licenses : CC BY NC SA and CC BY NC .

First case, with a CC BY NC SA:

You are free to:

  • Share : copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
  • Adapt : remix, transform, and build upon the material
  • The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.

    But:

  • Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
  • NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes.
  • ShareAlike — If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

  • In the second case, with a CC BY NC:

    You are free to:

  • Share : copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
  • Adapt : remix, transform, and build upon the material
  • The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.

    But:

  • Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
  • NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes.

  • The only difference is about remix or transform, I thought it's better to authorize contributors to protect their work as they like.
Let us render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.

    So, I chose the Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) .

Just have to sign up, after a few clicks:

    The Creative Commons Faq .
