Project Goal

I would like to create a line of Yoga Jewelry that glows green and/or blinks green when the Yoga practitioner’s breath is on target. The Yoga teacher can focus on those having difficulties breathing correctly based on the color patterns. Breathing from the stomach area, chest or throat can be taught for various forms of Yoga breathing that will calm the mind. I believe that calming the mind will help innovators innovate better!

The components in this device will include:

1. A ring of LED lights that will be visible below the translucent casing that will hold the electronic components together on the piece of jewelry.

2. Translucent casing that can be easily opened to access the electronics and battery.

3. An Bean (mini Arduino) with an accelerometer capable of detecting movement and providing appropriate output signals that will feed into the ring of LED lights.

4. A decorative medallion possibly made of wood or metal that can be replace based on personal preference as the face of the piece of jewelry (exposed but held on with translucent casing; i.e.the ying yang medallion).

May the breath be with you...

Results

1. Downloaded the accelerometer app from Google Play to understand sensitivity of phone accelerometer.

2. Bought “LightBlue Bean” products (low energy Bluetooth Arduino) to experiment with the accelerometer and connecting to the ring of LEDS lights.

3. Medallion designed (unique Ying Yang) using Inkscape and requires further refinements and improved knowledge of Inkscape(see Figure B).

4. Developed first Solidworks drawing of top part of casing to test tolerance of how it all fits together (see Figure C).
