In order to find a license that is right for me, investigate the current license types:
1. The generic Public License is a kind of license which is free and permits to modify whatever is licensing, however it has copyeft, this means that anyone that make use of a creation that has this license it is forced to reveal what he or she is doing. So there is no monetary remunaration for the author of a creation with this license.
2. The Berkeley Software Distribution license, is a permisive free software license. This means, that it permits to any user to modify, distribute or sell any derivate work without copyleft or mention to the author. This kind of license does not provide monetary remuneration and does no protect the author.
3. The are many Creative Common Licenses and each of this licenses can have different restrictions. The restriction of this license is determined by four conditions, which are:
- Attribution: This condition is common to every creative common license, it means that anyone who uses a creation that has a license with this condition has to mention the author.
- Share-alike : This means that, any derivate work must have the same license as the original creation.
- Non-commercial: This condition does not permit others to sell any derivate work.
- No derivate work: This condition does not permit others to to do any derivate work.
MY DESICION : My decision is to choose a Creative Commons license of the type attribution - noncommercial, because I think that anyone who benefits the ideas should be able to use it and perhaps improve it.
CC-BY-NC
FUTURE POSSIBILITIES : In this case, I am designing not a product, a system and what differentiates it from the common garage doors will be that it can be customized with the information of the members of the house.
For example, if my father or my son arrives at the house I get a notification to me and my other relatives that will allow me to see a photo and verify if it is the one and know that it has arrived and in the case of strange people will give me the option of Open or not open the door.
In these times of insecurity seems a very good idea, but to the level that this currently I need to team with a specialist in image recognition (Marks maybe) to complete the project satisfactorily and to be able to patent it and then market it
