INTERFACE AND APPLICATION PROGRAMMING

INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT

1. write an application that interfaces with an input &/or output device that you made, comparing as many tool options as possible

1. APP INVENTOR

In this assignment we had to put together an app for the cell phone. Use APP inventor to create my app. You can access this link Http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ You must sign in with your mail account.

This page allows you to create an App in a graphical way.

From the menu on the left side the options are pulled to the center of the sheet. In the menu on the right side will appear the structure (order) of the components. You can edit name, color and position.

At the bottom of the test viewer are the Bluetooth and Notifier options. Bluetooth will be the option that we will use to link devices and Notifier will notify us when there is an error in the App.

Starting the programming we will go to the menu on the left side to choose the options. These function as keys and graphically you can see which connectors can be linked to each other.

This is the setting for Bluetooth.

The program has an App emulator that works with Android. If you want to do the test from the web emulator you must have patience because it takes a long time to load.

2. APP WORKING

In Arduino (version 1.8.2) you will configure the Bluetooth connection

We connect a Bluetooth module and set it as master.

We give the indication to write "off" or "on" according to the signal that its recogniced.

On an Android device we look for available Bluetooth devices. We find in the list "VANE" that is connected to my Bluetooth module.

To connect, we must enter the key that we put in the settings of the Bluetooth module. In this case it was 1212.

I tested with another Android device and also found my Bluetooth signal as VANE

Just like in the previous case I put my 1212 key to connect both devices.

In the APP Inventor web page we go to the Connect menu, we will see a screen like the one we see now with a QR code

We scan from the Android device this QR code to have access to the APP we designed.

The APP designed appears on the Android tablet. The "On" and "Off" buttons will send messages to the serial port.

Each time you press one of these buttons a message will arrive to the serial port in Arduino indicating that there is connection between both devices. You can watch the video to see the live test.
