3D scanning and printing

This week's task is to make a 3D model that can't be made by a subtractive machine but can be made by an additive machine which is the 3D printer in our case and to make a scanned model.

3D printing

  1. I started thinking about a model that can be made by the 3D printer ( Additive) and can't be made by a CNC milling machine ( subtractive) and I decided to make a sphere inside a box so that the size of the sphere doesn't allow you to get it out from the box it's just inside it and the box is closed. To be made it must be built a layer by layer so that a sphere can be built inside a closed box and can't be made by a CNC because the routing tool will not be able to reach inside the box.

  2. I started working on Fusion 360 it's really a cool CAD tool and I chose to work on it for many reasons which you can know more about in the week 2 documentation.

  3. I usedCura for slicing and printing. It's mainly made for Ultimaker but it's open source so you can use it for any other printer
    • open your design with Cura.
    • set the settings of your print. The settings below is for a 1.75 mm diameter ABS with 0.4 mm nozzle
    • put an SD card on your laptop or pc then press on the SD card icon in the top left button of Cura it will export to your SD card directly.

  4. I putted the SD care on my printer and it took 54 minutes to make the print and consumed 9 gm of the filament

  5. That's all :)
