Final Project Models
My goal is to develop projection technology for creative art installations. I developed a range of 2D and 3D CAD models using Photoshop, Illustrator, 123D and Sketchup to explore potential approaches to this project. These techniques incorporate various projection methods including traditional slide, LCD, and DLP technologies.

Basic Projector

Starting with the basics, a standard slide projector uses a lamp, mirror, lenses and images to display an enlarged graphic on the screen.

Short Throw Projector

In order to make a projection more accessible, it would be helpful to minimize the distance between the device and its projected image. If the instrument is mounted below the main projection surface, an inflected optical system could help shape the resulting image.

LCD Projector

With LCD projection (Liquid Crystal Display), a light source shines through filters that separate rays into RGB frequencies. The beams are recombined through a prism and are then projected as a visual.

DLP Projector

In DLP technology, Digital Light Processing, light is shined through a spinning color-wheel onto a chip of electronically controlled mirrors that determine color. The light is then passed through filters and lenses to output high-quality image projection.

Potential Results & Next Steps If the projector can become wireless and receive digital input, there is the opportunity to incorporate site-specific projection mapped designs, data responsiveness and sensory interactivity.
