WEEK SEVEN
-Computer-controlled machining-
ASSIGMENT: The assigment for this week was make something big with the CNC, Big milling machine.
1. DESIGN THINKING
First I did a bit of benchmarking in order to see examples of objects made with the CNC. So I can have a reference and from that create my own design.
I decide to make a hammoc, but just the structure part as the hammoc is going to be made out of fabric. Under you can see a bit of the evolution and changes I did before coming up with the final design. I have used Rhino as I am used to design with it and I didn't wanted to spend time with other softwares this time.
I worked with Rhinoceros to design the 3d file.

3. HOW TO PREPARE THE FILE FOR THE CNC milling mchine
This time we are cutting a shape that can be a 2D file so we can do it with ilustrator. But what I did is design the file in Rhino and then I did the option of MAKE 2D. And there you have a 2D file.And then save it as a DXF file.
Before to start milling all the file I wanted to make sure that the press and fit would be perfect so I did a fisrt test. I had to re-adjust a fitting part very important that I was forgetting. When you do press and fit and with the CNC you have to take into account that the end mill has a diameter so I had to add a circle at the corners of every press and fit with the diameter of the drill. I did it as 5 mm, same diametre of the end mill. And after it I am ready to start.
4. I place the material in the bed. I screw it making sure it does not move.I also change the bit for the one that has 5 mm diameter.
5. I import the vector file DXF with the program we use to edit the milling quality. You mesure the material. You unite the objects and then you have to specify if you want the mill to cut from outside, inside or in the middle of the line. You calculate and see if everything fits in the material and looks how you want.
6. After this we need to turn the machine on and open the Shop Bot program that is where we will calibrate the Z and X axis. Also the speed of the mill.

7. Once you think everything is ready you can turn on the vacum and also rotate the key. And then you just need to send the right file and start.
To move the drill of the machine you have to press K and then with the arrows you can movve it from the two axis or also in height.
8.Once is all milled we assembly all the parts.
