This week we are done a group assignment , the goal of this week make a machine, including the end effector, build the passive parts and operate it manually, document the group project and individual contribution.,

The group one consist of the following members.

Searching parts for machine
We search old printers from E-waste collectors. We collected some useful parts our machine like motors, threaded rods, smooth rods, timing belts, other useful mechanical components like gears, springs, screws. We could also get many useful electronics components too

I chose to focus my attention on the design the structure of machine , and assisted the production of the design of the structure and I also fixed and built the machine
I decided to use the blender for design model of machine. actually difficult part of the project , because the model of the machine must only use the materials available at the lab and the salvaged parts . My group-mate Sibu is suggested a press fit box like structure I star to design based on this concept

After finalising the structure of the machine

2-axis Multi-fab Machine by rashid on Sketchfab
Blender is good for modeling good looking things (teapot, tree, people etc.),Blender is an artistic tool (read "not intended for precision"). However, Blender has lack of the ability to easily specify specific dimensions . So
after finalizing the structure of the machine i decided to use another cad tool (rhino 3d ) for design with precise dimension
For design with precise dimension take dimensions of all steel rods and threaded rods using for machine

We decided to use 6mm acrylic sheet to make machine body .
Then I start to draw the separate 2d parts of the machine with the dimensions take above . I use rhino 3D for drawing this

After finishing the design I made some test cut using laser cutter in 6mm acrylic sheet . Then check designed size are correct fit for motors and rods

There was some problem with position arrangement of holes

For getting better position arrangement of holes we use OpenSCAD . My group mate sibu did a press-fit box in OpenSCAD for his Computer-Controlled Cutting week, we desired to make modification on this . The holes are meant for the m8 threaded rod. The holes for the guide rods are such that either m6 or m8 smooth rods, the two set of walls have two different holes

The Y-stage ready to be mounted on the X-box/carriage. Three m4 bolts have been used to fix the mounting plate to the bottom of the Y-stage. This will be fitted (press fit) on the X-carriage. The motors too are press-fitted and also supported by a piece of acrylic base-plate glued to the main assembly
